"since the the same thing happens when camping for long periods of time." Well of course it does. But, obviously it's about minimizing the harmful exposure to the elements. There's a big difference between opening a trailer up for use vs. Storage. It's just like putting something between the tires and the concrete as recommended by the tire manufacturers: I certainly don't bother when I'm using the trailer, but I sure do it when it's parked in storage. But hey, that's just my personal logic.
