We installed a 32-inch hdtv lcd awhile back. It is larger than the opening, width wise. We consdidered trimming the trim to make the opening larger but have found we don't mind it the way it is. I did put additional trim at the top and bottom because the new TV is shorter than the opening. For on the road, I used web straps with plastic connectors and screwed the ends into the floor and ceiling of the opening. They work great. So far, after 500 miles of towing the tv has not budged. The straps keep it tight against the trim surrounding the opening. There has been no chafing. If you prefer a finished look such as the tv fitting in the hole then you either have to expand the opening or go with a smaller TV.
