we are in a condo and the primary draw for me is the pool. we live there about 6 months a year in michigan.
if it wasn't for the pool I'd be looking for a home where we could drain the pipes and turn the heat down low.... the condo association requires the heat to remain at 60+ degrees.
as for where to live that is just too huge of a discussion...every state has its pluses and minuses.
good luck...and remember do what the wife tells you...it is easier in your life.....enjoy Florida:-)
