I would never tie down one of these “new” style motorized awnings that come on our Montanas. I used to tie down my old-school manual Dometic awnings all the time. I had “de-flapper” attachments on the sides. Those awnings have the ability to resist winds better...but I remember many nights going out in a sudden storm to put the awning up.
