Gas will not tow like a diesel. When towing, gas usage is horrible compared to diesel, too. Diesels, pound for pound have higher torque which gives them a towing edge over gasoline engines. I think a 1 ton with a gas engine is barely capable, so a 3/4 ton is worse.
If you want to stick to SRW look for a 1 ton. Year to year, stock Fords tend to have a higher GVWR compared to their counterpart stock competitors but it's all in the pillar label. Get a look at that, then find out the 5th wheel tow rating. Finally, the higher the differential ratio the better (for example 3.73 is not as good as 4.10). With a Monty, chances are a 1 ton is the way to go (Diesel increases the odds even more).
I used to be a gasoline guy all my life, but after owning a diesel I will NOT go back for my trucks.
