I do the same but they do make a little roller for the top of the door so that you won't hurt the awning when fully extended when you open the door I saw them at one of the online RV supply sites can not remember which one, I think I will buy one because a couple of times I got a little snow on mine and it weighted the awning down a little and the door snags on it
