I have 2012 Duramax and I heard the horror stories of the high pressure fuel pumps grenading. It happened to a guy at work, just out of warranty, and it cost him $12,000 to fix. Because when the high pressure fuel pump come apart it send metal shaving into the engine fuel system. The high pressure pump and all the fuel components down stream, fuel rails, injectors, etc need to be replaced. Some say water in the fuel will cause it and others blame the poor lube properties of the low sulfur diesel fuel.
Since I don't have $12,000 to fix my truck if it happens I installed a Fass 95 GPH lift pump and I use Opti-lube in my fuel.
