My experience with insurance is, you'll end up paying for it over time anyhow. Best to not involve them for petty claims.
I broke a leaf spring and bent axle coming back from Alaska on the Alaskan Highway, had it repaired and sent $1200 bill to Liberty Mutual. They paid it, minus my $500 deductible and in turn raised my annual rate by 20%. I've never had an accident, not one. Hadn't a traffic violation in over a decade. Started prospecting new insurance and turns out they listed the claim as an "at fault" accident. Meaning other insurance companies wouldn't give me a favorable rate.
Insurance is the biggest mandated scam next to the Ponzi scheme called the stock market.
It's shameful.
