One of the best decision I made was leaving California after I retired. My overall cost of living is much less here and the quality of life is much better. My wife really, really wanted to move to the wine country in Oregon and I wanted the Arizona desert...she won. The "hidden" taxes/expenses in California is killing that state. Registration fees, utilities, insurance rates, fuel taxes, and on and on. I would be paying outrageous fees in California with a new one ton truck and a new fifth wheel. There are greener pastures!
