I was able to install just the line you are talking about. Just unscrew the pipes after the regulator to the point you want to go across the trailer and install a "T", then put all the piping you removed back together. I say that because the regulator is on the left side and all the cooking, awning and such is on the right side. I ran the pipe from left to right just behind the landing gear where I had support points. Camping World makes a quick connect kit with a built in shutoff for addes safety and piece of mind.
I use a Weber Q100. Just removed the regulator and put a propane rated hose of the desired length (I used a 10' section of hose) with the male fitting on the end. No issues, close calls or dangerous incidents in the 4 years I've had this setup. I just turn off the built in valve when I'm finished BBQing
