I had this problem with my truck when attached to the trailer and the problem was very intermittent. I finally went under the truck and unwrapped the tape on all connectors and recrimped all the connectors then rewrapped everything. The problem went away, for now. However, I live in Southern California where it hardly rains, and won't consider victory until I use my rig combination on a wet road. The intermittent problem occurred more often when it rained.
