If you go to the NC DOT web site you will find the same requirement many states have. If your gross combined vehicle weight (GCVW) rating is greater than 26,001 lbs and your trailer GVWR is greater than 10,000 lbs then you are required to have a class A non CDL license. Length has nothing to do with it.
