Hi DeWaine and Sharon. Terry and Patsy here, out on the west side, north of Hillsboro. We have a 3810, and there is an on/off switch in the pass through, however in the main area, either lifting the "sweep" lid, or plugging in the hose to the inlet will automatically activate the vacuum. Shut the lid, or pull the hose out, and it SHOULD shut off, unless the switch in the pass through was lief on. As others have also said, the hose is a pain in the butt, so we bought the Shark (a corded one) and use it most of the time. Use the hose for the basement, or major cleanups, such as on top of the slide outs when they are in.

Give us a holler/note if you ever want to meet. I get over to the east side occasionally. I belong to the local military vehicle club, and we meet at Camp Withycombe once a month. Likewise volunteer at the railroad museum down next to OMSI. Also do some farming out west here. Funny thing is, we're suposed to be retired!!!
