Seems we had a thread on this many moons ago. IIRC, this is the 2 piece section of the steering shaft that is made to telescope in case of front end impact. One thing I also recall; someone on here said they didn't have ability to steer after the replacement. Apparently the mechanic forgot to put the bolt back through the end of the shaft.

I had the truck in at about 30K miles, and they lubed this shaft. Didn't last til the water got hot. Then I read about the service bulletin over on the DP site, and they agreed to install the new shaft under warranty. Oh well, we've just learned to live with it. It is annoying though, at low speeds on a rough road.
