Your batteries didn't fail, the BMS built into each battery did a low voltage cut out at 10.5 volts. When you connected the generator, the BMS allowed voltage to begin charging the lithium batteries. The purpose of the BMS is to provide protection from over charging, discharging at too high of a rate, prevent charging from taking place when the battery temp is below freezing, to name a few. The BMS also looks at each individual cell of the battery and reacts to the first cell that reaches a full charge, or cools to 32 degrees, reaches the cut out voltage etc.. The Victron shunt keeps a running total of amp hours out and when the same amount comes back in, may sometimes indicate 100% when it really isn't. Top balancing the battery cells can improve battery performance by SLOWLY bring all cell voltages to peak before entering service.
