I am surprised that they didn't install a heat shield when you added the generator to your 5er. We had a 2013 mountaineer 310 RET that did not come with a gen set area. had one added and they built a heat shield box and put the generator in it. We had no problems..Sorry, I can't help you out much but maybe go to a heating and air place that does metal work and see if they can help you out.
