We live in Virginia Beach, right at the start of the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel. Our fiver is 13'-2" and no issues going through. Most fivers up to 13'-5" will not be stopped from going through.
As everyone is saying earlier, the propane tanks are required to be turned off for the trip across the bridge. Many times they will ask but not actually check them.
If anyone is too tall, you will be flagged by an overhead monitoring system and you will be turned around. I've heard of people letting air out of their airbags just to meet the max height.
