I have the same reel that Golfmedik has attached a photo of. It is the more "enclosed" reel ,not the "open" type reel. I paid right at $149. on amazon for mine, with free shipping. Look at all sites before buying i.e. Ebay/Amazon/Tweety`s...etc. Amazon is NOT always the lowest priced!!!
Yes mine is attached to the basement storage floor. Your idea of installing it on a part of plywood should work good too, as long as you clamp it down. It does help to straighten the cord prior to reeling it in, makes it easier to spool up that way.
