Well, we are into our third month on the road here in Alaska. We still aren't sure if we have truly had an 80 degree day yet this year. High 70's a couple of times for sure. A lot of the coastal area of Alaska is rain forest. So, we've seen some misty, cloudy and sometimes rainy days. But, we have had beautiful sunshine like we did today. And, there have been surprises to our agenda. Last night was spent watching pink salmon return from the sea to the fish weir at the hatchery in Valdez. There were lots of people waiting to see them - along with stellar sea lions, bald and golden eagles, otters, (bears but we haven't seen any), and sea gulls. Great pictures on my blog if you want to see them. Eagles carrying away fish, sea lions swinging fish in their mouths, bald and golden eagles fighting over territory and salmon trying to finish their life the way they were intended. Next up is the Stan Stevens cruise to Columbia Glacier and then we take our show on the road to McCarthy, Alaska. One of the few places in our country's largest national park that you can actually drive to - Wrangell-St. Elias. Then we have some backtracking to do to get to Haines and then Skagway. Our last stop in Alaska will be in Hyder to watch the bears feasting at Fish Creek. We need to savor this last month. And the rally is just around the corner. By the way, I am averaging 98 photos per day, we have gone a little over 7100 miles and diesel has averaged 4.88/gallon. If you are thinking about traveling to Alaska, consider signing up for the Fall Rally in Goshen and come find out about our trip and let us try to answer your questions.
