Well I just just used what I could get locally. The mason's cord is tougher than the original, but I think that fishing line might cut into the shade material. The mfr (Irvine Shade in Elkhart) would probably supply some of the original cord. Mason's line is usually available in hardware stores, but is often coloured in fluorescent shades that don't exactly go with the decor! Whatever you use, make sure it is braided, not twisted. (If all else fails, send me a PM, and I will try to get you some of the same cord that I used.)
