Art, I think you have a pressure issue to the auto switch regulator. If you are on a full tank with the valve open you should not see any red. Only time I have seen half red/green was when my red 18PSI regulator went out. Even then, when I switched the lever to the other tank, I would get a full green flag. My red regulator was full of pipe thread compound.

I have never had an issue with the OPD slamming shut on the system as long as the regulators are working correctly. I did find my neighbor failed to screw the hose on good, and the safety slammed shut. He had called the RV service out, but I merely tightened the hose, closed the propane tank valve and re-opened. Problem solved. I am running now without the red regulator, and the bottle on that side has to be opened very slooooooowly.
