Answer for why the price of gas goes up without a new delivery.

My wife is a waitress in a small town here in N. Mich. A man who owns three gas stations in the Lansing area came into the resturaunt and Cheryl asked him why the same gas that has been lying in tanks for three days changes prices at the pump at a momement's notice. This is one of her MAJOR pet peeves . This was his answer ~

Major gas companies like Amoco, Shell, BP, etc all OWN the pumps and tanks in the ground at each of their "independently owned" stations. Some of you knew this fact. The oil companies have discovered a new gimmick to make it easier for them to make more money. They do NOT sell the gasoline when they unload it at their stations. They only STORE it there. They sell it to the "independent owner" ONLY when he pumps it out of the OIL COMPANY'S pumps into vehicles, gallon by gallon. They therefore have found a way to move prices at will, and very quickly. The gas station's "owner" said the oil company cuts him in on $0.05/gallon ~ regardless whether the price is $1.00/gal or $5.00/gal.

How about that for free enterprise!

Now you know why supplies (pop, candy bars) in these gas stations are getting more expensive. It is the only way the "owner" can make any money.
