On the bright side, try obtaining computer certifications like CISSP,CCNA, MCSE or Security +. They take a lot of effort to get and maintain. They also require annual continuing education (CE).
I can't personally speak to the OPs post regarding "Master Certified Techs" but somehow I find it believable.
