Here is an interesting photo showing why I think that the eye bolts that Andersen sells are inadequate. Notice that one of the eye bolts has completely straightened out and is no longer containing the chain. It also shows a monumental failure of the aluminum ball that they use. Again notice that the ball appears to have a clean shear instead of a stretched and bent appearance. The owner stated that this happened under a hard braking application. Either he used a brick wall for braking or clearly a defect in the bar stock used for the ball. It appears that as the trailer moved toward the cab the safety chain crossed the leg of the frame and bent and distorted it. Saw this photo on another forum, would be interesting to hear Andersens comments on it!
