I have a 3121, and loaded for an extended trip, my pin weight was well over 3000lbs. When I was looking at trucks (2017), I initially looked at a CCSB 1 ton and it had a payload of between 3000-3500lbs (I don't remember the exact number). I knew the 3121, based on loaded pin weight, not dry pin weight, would be at the limit of the truck, not including the hitch. I knew I also wanted to add an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed, and possibly a couple of small generators. So I knew I would definitely be over weight. So wound up going with a super cab dually. There are folks out there that pull the biggest fifth wheel they can find with a 3/4 ton truck and ignore the fact that they are overloaded, some way overloaded. But that is there choice. My truck is not my daily driver, so that was not a concern.
