Hey Tony, some time ago I read somewhere about someone did exactly what you are suggesting. He put a winch in the front compartment and cut out the floor. After raising the generator into position he puts some sort of metal bracing under generator to hold it in place. When he wants to use the generator he raises the generator slightly and pulls out the bracing and lowers the generator.
