I did that very thing. I used these parts which I found very easy to use. I ran the light strips (which can be cut to length) just inside the door so that you can't see it directly. The light strip has a self-adhesive backing. I also used some thumb tacks to reinforce here and there for longevity. There are a lot of places to access the 12v and a lot of creative ways to run the wires so they can't be seen.
