I don't know how you may do it, but if you can get some concentrated insect spray from a professional exterminator (Terminix, Orkin,etc.) it will work better than anything. It is almost non-toxic (except for a concentrated application to either fish or birds), it goes a long way because you mix it with water, it has virtually no odor and it doesn't stain.
Another big advantage over household products is that it leaves a fine coating behind which keeps killing insects for 3 or more months on an exterior application and even longer for interior applications, which, to my knowledge, household products do not.
I am a licensed exterminator and can buy it directly, but you may be able to talk an exterminator into selling/giving you a bottle.
