Randy,
Yes on too much grease but only because it runs out so yes to the openings to the screw section. If you feel the screw section is dry I suggest 90 weight from the top or there are others that remove the bottom leg and slide a tube full of grease up to coat the screw section. I just pack the top full in the spring, run them all the way down and up and then let the heat in the summer let some of the grease work it was down.
