There are forest service camp grounds on the west side of Yellowstone. You might check them out. When I go to Yellowstone I like to stay at the Madison Camp ground. But I suspect you will need a reservation this year.
The first time I went out west it was daunting. It’s so far, where do you stay, how do you find a place to stay at night, what about fuel. After you start it is really no big deal. Get in your truck and head out there if you don’t like it you can always turn around. Try it you WILL NOT regret it. Yellowstone is magical place. You need to see it and the only way is to go. The sights, sounds, the wild life oh and the smells that is what you will never forget. Have you ever smelled sage brush, sulfur or looked way out in the prairie and saw white dots. They will be antelope.
Just go. Quit worrying.
