Hi John. Back when I first learned i didn't have the correct license classification I started asking around for info. I'm retired LEO and asked at my former employer finding that only one officer--who happened to be the commercial traffic enforcement officer--was aware of the license class requirement. I then happened to contact some friends still with our local CHP office, asking them about the matter. Not only did they confirm knowing about the classes, stated they will always check class status whenever they've had other reasons to stop/contact an RV'er on California roads, knowing where to quickly look on all RV trailers for GVWR info. I was a little surprised to learn they appeared to be very cognizant of the issue and confirmed they won't hesitate to issue citations for driving out of class. So to be sure, don't give CHP a reason to pull you over to begin with...but if they do...
