It is important to have a nice square cut on the hose, you can mark your hose and make sure it threads to that depth or until it bottoms out, this part is left hand thread and the part that screws into the inside of the hose is right hand thread. Adding a little lubricant to the outside and inside of the hose does help. It is a bit difficult to grip the hose when screwing that fitting on, so use gloves to help with that.
