Don't let this little job intimidate you. Replace the old pump and save it for an emergency. If you want your pump to be more quite then you need to replace the old pump along with adding the quite kit. Accessing the water pump is half the job. If i am going to be looking at the old pump you can bet i would be replacing it. Good luck.
