The original studs, b4 switching to disc brakes, were 1/2" and allowed plenty of room between the lug nut and the wheel hole for a socket. Once changed to 9/16" they used the same length lug nut but reduce the space enough where even a thin wall socket was a tight fit. We were able to remove the lug nuts but not without some effort and cursing. When I bought my last set of tires the lug nuts were changed but require a key socket which is less than desirable but at least I can get the socket on the lug.
