Yes, I agree; as installed with the lightweight bar and supports with a single screw into the thin paneling - will not stand up. We had the same experience as you did.

As to solutions? To me, all of the ideas to add bracing are overly complicated. The far simpler and more elegant solution is to install a heavier bar with heavier metal attachments on the sides. It has worked perfectly for us, and we have the closet fully loaded with clothes for extended living (and we put on about 7-10k miles per year).
