They say if you can hear thunder you should be inside. Not sure inside a "tent" qualifies for inside.
Mother Nature and her brats are dangerous and personally, I give her a bucket load of respect, you can read that as, I keep eyes and ears open, check the weather frequently, weather radio turned on, and if storms are approaching and I hear thunder, I am inside Tana.
Years ago we sat out the storms surrounding a tornado in a pop up camper. The two eldest boys had been in a pup tent, and I called them into the pop up. Now, why I thought we were all gonna be ok in that pop up is beyond me, it was early in the AM and I am sure my thinking was foggy. The pup tent never saw service again as a limb speared it, but we were spared any damage (cept to nerves) in the pop up. There were trees down everywhere in that park, we could not even drive out of there.
Today, if I saw that green sky, I would be hightailing it to the concrete block bath houses. I think that would be my advise to tenters during a storm with a lot of lightening.
If in a Montana, I would secure awnings, lawn chairs, other gear stored outside and head inside Tana. I might even consider unplugging Tana if I thought it was gonna be a significant storm. Weather radar these days is rather good, if it looked red, purple and other dark colors, I just might unplug for the duration, even with the full house surge protector we have built in. Al probably would not, but, I might! (YEP, I am a LOT more leary of storms than he is.)
