I think you did the right thing with tape. My molded on End separated even less than yours but I was worried so I had to destroy it to free up the ends of the wires to install another aftermarket Plug. (The wires were still VERY solidly attached/molded in). Which I've already replaced once, since the screw on "fasteners" don't stay tight forever. Wish I had just taped it like you!
