When I do my bearing service I was inspecting the spindles and thought that is looked like it just bolts onto the ends of the axle. Is everyone recommending that if the spindles need replacing that replacing the axle is the way to go? In this case was it because of the damage that probably damaged the end of the axle? So can the spindles be replaced in some sort of assembly if one catches a worn spindle prior to a mishap? Now, it sounds like this might be expensive and maybe too much for me to do myself.

Of course, keeping the bearing well lubed should prevent the spindles from needing replacement but you just never know with these heavy trailers and the friction at work..
