Like many, mine are always on. Change the batteries every 2 years but keep spares with the display. I leave the repeater on mostly by accident as I have it wired thru a switch. Since the batteries are Panasonic Lithiums, I would not worry about leakage nor cold weather. I've never had a coin Lithium leak. That's interesting about a neighbor effecting your receiver.
