Good Job Mike! The reason for the vent or any other plastic item on the outside of the unit yellows is because they do not use virgin plastic to make it. They use reprocessed plastic to make them and it will yellow every time with age. I plan on replacing mine with a metal one next time. I've seen them around and they are about the same in cost but SUPPOSEDLY they are guaranteed not to rust. We'll see! Using the butyl tape was a good idea and it will keep the seal.
