backflow on black tank clean out

Took our first trip of the year this past weekend. When I connected to black tank flush, I discovered a leak coming from the backflow device located under the bathroom sink. The unit was properly winterized, but it appears to have a small hole in it. Contacted the dealer who refered me to Montana because the warranty ran out 2 weeks ago. Of course, their response was what I expected. Dealer wants $35.00 for the part. It looks easy enough to install. But, my question is: has anyone just bypassed this backflow preventer? I have a backflow device that hooks to your outside hose. It came with one of the tank flush kits that you install yourself. The tank flush on the unit never appeared to have very much pressure. Was wondering if bypassing would help. Suggestions or opinions?
