I just replaced the ones in our microwave above the stove. They were conventional 110volt and got rather hot. Now they are cool to the touch and I have no problem leaving them on all the time (Good night lights).


No down side except cost to LED. In fact, some advantages:
Last a LOT longer than conventional bulbs.
Are much cooler (less of a fire hazard).
Often can be purchased in multi colors for really cool effects
Use less energy which makes them less of a strain on your batteries
