I went to Home Depot and got "L" aluminum angle, thick wall, not the thin, it won'g be strong enough. I notched the ends so that the "L" portion of the angle would be down in the hatch opening. I used two of them and spaced them equal distance apart from top to bottom.
No more squeaking or bending. YOu will need short screws that will go through the thick portion of the aluminum and still get a good bite into the wood without sticking up through the carpet. Wouldn't be good if you walk around in your rig in bare feet!!
