I did a upgrade to a Garmin 1450. It has a 5" screen and it can receive routes and waypoints from the Garmin MapSource program (I got the program free with the purchase of my first gps and have recieved free updates) you can run on a laptop to plan trips. The 1450 can also be used by itself to plan routes. I think you can store 10 routes on the unit. It does not have the traffic feature so it cost less then the 1650. I have noticed since I purchased mine the price has come down.
