I carry a 2x6 6 feet long and a 1X6 5 feet long I drilled two holes in each of them and when there is a need for both boards I drop a carrage bolt in the 1x6 and into the holes on the 2x6. NO slide
when I need just one of them the carrage bolts can be put in the boards to act as an anchors to keep them from skiding but so far I have not had the problem of sliding. Oh yes the ends on both are cut at around 45 degrees
