Shorts and grounds are not the only things electrically than can cause problems. We had a problem some years ago that the bedroom TV would turn off when the vanity light switch was turned on. After pulling covers off several 12 volt boxes, I discovered a poorly made crimp connecting three wires together with a splice cap. I cut everything apart and made the connection properly and we have never had an issue since. So, the proper term for this issue would be 'opens'.
