Zowie, now I'm confused - but really, do it like the directions say, its the only way it will work.

Hard to explain, but if you think about it, the instructions are only trying to take the slack out of the pivot points on the JTs. The front assembly can be done either up OR down with no loss in stabilization because you are never relieving the front jacks of the weight (unless you are hooked up to the truck). However the rear can ONLY go down. If the lift the rear up at all it takes the pressure off the jacks and you've lost stability all together.
