If you are an Elks member, there is a rv facility on the USA side you can stay. There is also a county campground on the USA side that is along the waterway. Three recommendations, take the small boat tour through the locks on both sides. Take a side trip to Macinaw Island, several campsites in Macinaw area after the bridge, or make it a day trip there. Airplane museum on Canadian side. Do not take the train trip on Canadian side, BORING. And one more, lots of mosquito repellant.
