I have some reservations on Ford's switch to aluminum. It saves weight and is less prone to corrosion, but I'm concerned about long term paint issues (aluminum can be difficult to get paint adhesion) and perhaps more important, collision repair. When GM introduced the APV Lumina, insurance rates skyrocketed when it was found out that collision shops either couldn't repair them, thus totaling out a vehicle with relatively minor damage, or the cost to repair was excessive because collision shops had no method of bringing the space frame (what the plastic body panels were fastened to) back into spec. Fortunately, since the Ford HD won't be out for at least another year, prospective buyers may have a better chance to know if these things will problems based upon the 150 models. Before buying one, I would be sure to check these factors out so I didn't end up with sticker shock when I called the insurance company.
