It will get better. i hooked my 305rl weighing 13500lbs loaded to my new 3500 duramax with 500 mile on it and left Johnstown Pa. for California. I think the first 5000 miles it used as much DEF as fuel! It continually improved and our last trip from Pa to Corpus Christi then to Florida and then home it used considerably less with approx. 15000 miles on the truck. Speed,head winds and hills have an adverse effect on consumption. Also i get much more mileage out of the GM DEF fluid. If i have to buy an off brand while on the road i notice greater consumption right away. Cost at dealer is $16.00 for 2.5 gal. jug.
